Traders always talk about finding an edge, a holy grail. Experienced traders know that no system is foolproof and no trader is bulletproof.  Hence, the name of the conference, the “There-Is-No-Holy-Grail Trading Conference” from July 18-22 in Bend, Oregon.

Conference goers will gather at the 4-star Oxford Hotel for daily trading sessions with seasoned traders who trade for a living — real traders, not blowhards who just talk about trading for a living.

We will have a dinner Sunday night and a golf tournament on Thursday. Other than that, you’re free to do as much or as little as you want. Bend has a lot to offer mind, body and spirit.

Introduction to Market Upside Down: How to Invest Profitably in a Shrinking Economy

I sat down with Vinh Tran to discuss “Market Upside Down” Fascinating story that confirms my thesis that you need to have Trading as part of your overall Asset Allocation strategy! It is a part of the big picture as Vinh’s experience clearly lays out!

Vinh Q. Tran is doing research on global markets and economies as a Visiting Scholar at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate. He is also Managing Partner at Pinehill Capital LLC, an investment advisory firm based in Stamford, CT.

Vinh has been a money manager for over 20 years with global financial institutions, managing global investments, hedged equities and alternative investments, and advising wealthy individuals and institutional investors. He was Director of Alternative Investments at Bank of America, Head of Global Fixed Income at Morgan Stanley, and Director of International Investments at Aetna Life & Casualty. Throughout his career, Vinh has earned high acclaim for his investment performance from Fortune, the New York Times, Morningstar, and others.

He has taught advanced investment as adjunct professor of Finance at NYU’s Stern School of Business. He holds a Ph.D. and MBA in Finance from The George Washington University, and graduated magna cum laude in both Accounting and Political Science from the University of Dalat, Vietnam.

Besides ‘Market Upside Down: How to Invest Profitably in a Shrinking Economy’, released in February by FT Press/Wharton School Publishing, Vinh is also the author of ‘Evaluating Hedge Fund Performance’ (John Wiley & Sons);and ‘Foreign Exchange Management in Multinational Firms’ (University of Michigan Research Press).
